For the past three decades David Y. Eberspacher has been actively engaged in a general trial practice in state
and federal court. As the law firm has grown, David has chosen to narrow his practice to those areas he finds
most interesting, and the focus of his practice is contested estate litigation, estate administration, estate
planning, probate and real estate.
David was admitted to practice before the Illinois Supreme Court in 1978. He is admitted to practice before the Central and Southern Districts of the U.S. District Court in Illinois and the 7th Circuit United States District Court of Appeals.
David graduated from Shelbyville High School, Shelbyville, Illinois in 1970. David attended the University of Illinois from 1971 to 1975, spending his junior year in the Netherlands (University of Tilburg) and Austria. While at the University of Illinois, David was a member of Beta Theta Pi social fraternity. David received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1975 and attended law school at the University of Tennessee, receiving his Juris Doctorate degree in 1978. While at the University of Tennessee, David was a member of Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity and was Vice Justice from 1977 to 1978.
After graduating from law school, David served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in St. Clair County, Illinois, from 1978 through 1980. From 1981 through 1992, David practiced law in Mattoon, Illinois, where he focused his practice on personal injury, criminal defense, and other areas of litigation.
In 1992, David and M. John Hefner, Jr. formed the law firm of Hefner and Eberspacher. On January 1, 2008, David became a principal in the law firm now known as Hefner, Eberspacher & Tapella, LLC.
David served as an Assistant City Attorney for the city of Mattoon from 1992 through 2002. He is a member of the Coles-Cumberland Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Association of Justice.
David has received an A.V. rating from his colleagues, the highest rating available by the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating service.
Mr. Eberspacher and his wife, Mary Jo reside in Mattoon, Illinois. They have one daughter, Sarah Marie Eberspacher.
